AUR President George Simion criticized the social disparities between Romania’s regions and called for the establishment of an inquiry committee in the Chamber of Deputies to investigate irregularities related to bringing in workers from third countries. The statements were made in the context of debates on the future budget of the European Union and the reduction of funds allocated to certain poor regions.

The AUR leader argued that Moldova and Oltenia risk being affected by the reduction in European funding, which he says is essential for reducing development gaps. Simion announced that on National Day, the party would present the strategy “The Second Unification of Romanians,” with measures for the 2028–2040 period.

He also criticized the situation in which more than six million Romanians work in Western Europe, while Romania is bringing in an increasing number of workers from countries outside the European Union, including in poor areas.

The request concerning the inquiry committee was submitted to the Standing Bureau and in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies. The statements came after AUR deputy Dan Tănasă was sent to trial for incitement to violence, hatred, or discrimination, following statements about deliveries made by foreign workers. AUR supports his right to a fair trial and to express his political views.

Previously, AUR President George Simion criticized the SAFE program, which he described as “harmful” and “full of allegations of corruption,” announcing that the party would file a complaint with the DNA regarding possible acts of corruption related to this program.

During the same period, Simion called for public mobilization in support of Călin Georgescu, including protests organized by Romanians in France and the United States, while Georgescu was in pretrial detention for 30 days as part of a DIICOT investigation.
