The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) has initiated a draft resolution to establish a parliamentary committee of inquiry to examine how the authorities manage illegal migration and compliance with the legal regime governing foreign nationals in Romania.
The committee would also analyze crimes committed by foreign nationals and the situation of workers from outside the European Union, including issues related to their exploitation. The initiative seeks to identify legislative and administrative vulnerabilities that may affect control of migration and the enforcement of rules concerning foreign nationals’ entry and residence.
AUR is calling for an examination of how the responsible institutions fulfill their duties, as well as of the checks carried out in this area. The party’s lawmakers argue that the inquiry must determine whether current procedures are effective and whether there are shortcomings in cooperation between the authorities.
At the conclusion of the review, the committee would propose measures to improve the legal and administrative framework, with the stated objective of protecting public order and national security. The draft resolution must go through parliamentary procedures before being put to a vote.
