The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) is preparing the national project “The Romanians’ Second Unification,” a policy document that the party intends to present in Alba Iulia on December 1, 2026. The plan aims to reduce disparities between the country’s regions, modernize infrastructure, and strengthen economic ties with the Republic of Moldova.
AUR Senate leader Petrișor Peiu said the project is based on four problems: the uneven development of the regions, the existence of two Romanian states, the differences between large cities and rural communities, and Romania’s insufficient connectivity with neighboring states and Western Europe.
Entitled “Romania 2028–2040,” the plan includes the development of transport and energy infrastructure, the modernization of airports, and increased energy interconnection. One priority is the creation of a north–south corridor linking Moldova to Dobrogea and Muntenia and making use of the Port of Constanța.
AUR also proposes establishing a public-private investment fund for the Republic of Moldova by transforming the financial aid provided by Romania into an investment instrument. The party also supports reducing disparities in education and unifying the stock exchanges in Bucharest and Chișinău.
