American investors are more concerned about political instability in Bucharest than about Romania’s financial situation, according to President Nicușor Dan. The statement was made in New York, after a meeting organized by J.P. Morgan, attended by representatives of companies, banks, and investment funds interested in bonds issued by Romania.
The president said that participants asked questions about the political and financial situation, and that he answered those concerning the formation of the new government. Finance Minister Nazare and official Burnete provided explanations about the economic indicators.
According to Nicușor Dan, the main concerns focused on the fact that Romania still does not have a government with full powers. Investors asked him directly when the new Executive would be installed, and the president presented them with estimates, without publicly specifying the indicated deadline.
Nicușor Dan told them that, despite conflicts between the parties, there is a willingness to compromise on important matters, citing the agreements regarding the PNRR from July and August. The discussions took place while designated prime minister Siegfried Mureșan is attempting to obtain the 233 votes necessary for investiture. PSD and AUR have announced that they will not support the government, while UDMR is expected to establish its position.
“Of course, questions were asked about the political situation and the financial situation. I answered those related to the political situation. Minister Nazare and Mr. Burnete answered those related to the financial situation. The concerns were greater on the political side, because we are doing very well on all financial indicators compared with where we started. And I answered. In essence, I told them that, beyond these squabbles, on important matters, as was the case in the summer, in July-August, regarding the PNRR, there is a great deal of reasonableness in the political sphere. In short, that was it,” the head of state replied.
