President Nicușor Dan stated that the situation caused by the lack of a fully empowered Government must be resolved in the coming weeks, so that Romania can carry out the budget revision and prepare the budget for the following year. The head of state specified that, in the very short term, there are no reasons for panic, but the current situation is not a normal one.
“Ideally, we would not be here. A solution was found that took us from October 1 to November 1. This came from discussions with the Government, which took us from October 1 to November 1 with the Reserve Fund at 10%, but this is not normal. So, it is not a reason for panic in the very short term, but it is a matter of weeks until we have to resolve this problem,” Nicușor Dan stated.
Nicușor Dan warned that Romania must have its budget approved by the end of the year. Without a concrete version of the budget bill, it cannot be determined whether there will be resources for increasing pensions or public-sector employees’ salaries.
The president also said that public-sector staff remuneration is a concern for all parties, but any increase must be correlated with the available resources and the budget’s total envelope. The decision regarding any possible increases will be made after the budget bill is released.
