President Nicuşor Dan said Friday, in Ukraine, that Romania should retain its investment-grade status despite the risk of receiving a junk rating. The head of state stressed that, although government predictability would be preferable to the current situation, Romania’s financial figures justify maintaining its investment-grade status.
The statement was made after meetings with investors, fund representatives and banks with exposure to Romania. Nicuşor Dan said there is political agreement on the main objectives, citing measures adopted in connection with the NRRP, the SAFE programme and other decisions approved by Parliament.
Nicuşor Dan said the macro-financial situation is better than it was a year and three months ago, when the Bolojan Government was installed. In his view, the current issue is one of time and does not necessarily require immediate financial measures.
Nicuşor Dan said a budget revision is necessary because some institutions lack the funds needed to operate. To provide predictability for financial markets, he called for the 2027 budget to be negotiated and approved by the end of this year.
