Alin Tișe, president of the Cluj County Council, announced on Wednesday, November 4, his candidacy for the leadership of the National Liberal Party. He will enter the race at the party’s next congress, the date of which has not been set.
The announcement was made in a message posted on Facebook, after Tișe said he had received the support of liberal colleagues. He justified his decision by citing the 25 years he has spent in the PNL and the five mandates won through direct vote: four as head of the Cluj County Council and one as a senator.
The Liberal criticizes the party’s current direction and argues that members and local organizations should have a more important role in decision-making. One of his proposals is for internal elections to begin at the local level and continue through to the national leadership.
“The PNL is heading in the wrong direction. And it is time to stop this! The PNL is nobody’s property. It is the party of the hundreds of thousands of people who built it, of the mayors who won elections, of the presidents of county councils, of the parliamentarians and of the organizations that keep the party alive. The PNL must once again become a party in which its members matter, in which those who win elections have a strong voice and in which decisions are made together. Following the support of my liberal colleagues, I am taking on the candidacy for the position of president of the National Liberal Party at the next Congress,” wrote Alin Tişe, president of the Cluj County Council, on Facebook.
