PNL MP Alina Gorghiu criticized on Wednesday the party leadership’s strategy regarding the formation of the new government and the liberals’ willingness to support an executive led by Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu. The message was published on Facebook amid political negotiations and a crisis that has been lasting for nearly half a year.
Gorghiu recalled that the liberals who had previously supported a government led by Adrian Veștea, with PNL ministers and PSD participation, were almost expelled from the party. By contrast, the PNL leadership is now willing to sign an agreement with a technocratic prime minister and support a government associated with the PSD.
“Just yesterday, some of us were on the verge of being expelled for voting for a government with a liberal prime minister,” the MP wrote, asking whether that decision had been wrong and whether the PNL would have gained more by supporting the Veștea government.
PNL President Ilie Bolojan announced that the party is considering a bilateral political agreement with Luca Niculescu. The document would not constitute a coalition and would not entail the liberals entering government, but would establish the conditions under which the PNL could support measures for the country’s stability over the next six months.
Gorghiu warned that the effects of the political crisis would continue to be felt and noted that, ultimately, there would be a government.
