The escalation of conflicts in politics never leads to a decent outcome, but rather to political, social, and economic chaos. That is exactly what Russia has been trying to achieve in Romania for years through its hybrid war: distrust, division, and the weakening of democratic institutions.
President Nicușor Dan should, based on his constitutional powers, convene parliamentary parties to resume political dialogue. I am convinced that today the parties that formed the former governing coalition have a much greater willingness to find a solution than they did just a few days ago.
I continue to believe that the new government of Romania must not bear, either directly or indirectly, the stamp "Guaranteed AUR".
Therefore, I return to what I said on June 3: Romania needs a political truce.
This truce could have four simple steps:
1. The withdrawal of Mr. Adrian Veștea's candidacy.
2. The relaunching, by the President, of consultations with parliamentary parties.
3. The identification, at the level of the parties that formed the former governing coalition, of a transition formula – a government with a limited mandate until February 15, 2027, to manage the complicated agenda of the coming months.
4. A stability agreement between these parties, so that state institutions can function normally, and economic, social, and security priorities can be managed responsibly.
Until February 15, 2027, there will be enough time for the parties to decide, through dialogue and negotiation, what political formula can ensure the governance of Romania after this period.
I repeat: politics is the art of compromise, not the art of stubbornness.
