Interim Minister of Education Mihai Dimian stated that Romania’s results in the PISA tests are poor and must be presented publicly without sugarcoating. He maintains that, before launching new education reforms, an analysis of the measures already adopted is necessary.

Dimian says that, despite the efforts made and some positive developments, the reforms implemented so far have not led to the expected results. In the interim minister’s view, a new change of direction should be prepared based on an assessment of the effects of the existing measures.

The statements come amid discussions regarding the performance of Romanian students in the PISA tests, international assessments that measure basic skills in reading, mathematics, and science. The results are used to compare education systems and identify the difficulties faced by students.
