Acting Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu has notified the National Council for Combating Discrimination in the case of Marian Artimon, president of the Free Trade Union of the Metro (USLM) and general councillor of the Capital representing the PSD. The complaint concerns his statements about the number of women holding management positions at Metrorex.

In a video posted on Facebook, Buzoianu said that Artimon’s statements cannot be treated merely as a personal opinion, since he also holds public office and participates in decisions affecting hundreds of thousands of Bucharest residents, including women and girls.

The minister argued that the issue is not only the trade union leader’s allegedly misogynistic attitude, but the fact that he makes decisions while holding this mindset. Buzoianu called for Artimon’s resignation from his position as general councillor and for the withdrawal of the political support provided by the PSD.

Marian Artimon stated, at a press conference about Metrorex’s financial situation, that there are “rather too many women” in the company’s management: “I don’t want to offend anyone. Rather too many women are running things and making decisions for the Metro today. Women on the Board of Directors, women directors—I don’t want to offend anyone.”
