In two months, in May 2026, 41% of Romanians believed that early elections are the solution to overcoming the political crisis (26% of PSD voters, 25% of PNL voters, 39% of USR voters, and 63% of AUR voters). Now, after two months of blockages and nuances in the political discourse on this subject, perceptions have probably changed as well.

Returning to the people is, in a situation of crisis and total blockage, a legitimate, democratic mechanism, especially when the elected representatives of the people are no longer willing to make political compromises.
Perhaps early elections could lead to a resolution of the situation. Perhaps not, as the Bulgarians have repeatedly demonstrated. What is certain is that if they were held next Sunday, they would lead to a doubling of AUR's score, an increase for PNL, a stagnation at best for PSD, USR, and UDMR, and the disappearance of SOS and POT from parliamentary political life. However, we might also wake up with new parties in Parliament due to the chronic dissatisfaction of the population with the political class, as well as the uncertainty regarding the public/political conduct of Călin Georgescu.
It is equally true that any electoral campaign can change the political landscape, with some rising and others falling, depending on gaffes, attacks, or exceptional behaviors.
However, we have one certainty. The fragmentation of representation in the Romanian Parliament will persist, with all its consequences on the ability to form a majority in the conditions of the evaporation of political compromise.
