The Trump-Putin meeting cannot leave us indifferent. Our own historical traumas, written or not on a napkin corner and which brought us the communist disaster with all its crimes, have activated our darkest anxieties.
Our geography has, over the centuries, shaped for us specific survival and growth strategies based on complex alliance politics. False moralists accuse this posture. In reality, it has been the only possible option to survive in this region for over 800 years and, finally, to unite within the same borders the largest part of the population sharing the Romanian language and culture.
Our greatest fear now is that of not failing tactically in the politics of alliances. Strategically, we made the right choice. 90% of the population supports the pro-West orientation of the country. The same as before communism. Back then, although almost nobody wanted a Soviet-style republic on Romanian territory, we lost our sovereignty at the green table and were colonized by the Supreme Soviet.
The most effective treatment to combat our strong fear is a mix between preserving the policy of pro-Western alliances, realistic and pragmatic assessment of the interests and behaviors of our main allies and, above all, especially the emphasis on strengthening the internal component which means two things:
1. A technologically and humanly strong military
2. A population with a high degree of genuine patriotism, resilient in the face of Russia's aggressive information war and willing to defend its true sovereignty at any cost against those who want to install an autocratic regime, vassal of the new Supreme Soviet, propagated by all sorts of drones flying through more and more dark corners of Romanian politics, dug with much tovărășesc elan by a bunch of traitors.
I remain an incurable optimist and even if lately, many signals collected from society do not look great, there are many others that show that the massive propaganda operation is not exactly a success. Our nation's instincts are good.
