A series of violent protests took place in Tanzania, starting on October 29, following the presidential and parliamentary elections. Young people, dissatisfied with a political system dominated by a single party since the 1960s, organized demonstrations in cities such as Dar es Salaam and Arusha. The police reacted brutally, using firearms, and graphic images showed the violence of their actions. According to the UN Office for Human Rights, hundreds of people have been killed, and diplomatic sources estimate that the number of victims could be at least 500. The government imposed severe censorship, blocking the internet and threatening with imprisonment those who shared images. After the lifting of the blockade on November 4, recordings began to emerge confirming the brutality of the police, including officers shooting into crowds and bodies in the streets. BBC Verify analyzed these images to provide a clearer picture of the events.
