Turkish police detained participants in an anti-NATO protest in Ankara

The Turkish police intervened to stop an anti-NATO protest in central Ankara, detaining several demonstrators who ignored the strict security measures imposed during the alliance's summit. The protesters, including opposition parliamentarians, attempted to march while carrying banners and chanting slogans such as "NATO get out, this land does not belong to you."

Police officers were caught on camera as they detained the protesters and loaded them onto a police bus. Following the incident, parliamentarians from the Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP) and the Labor Party (EMEP) called for the release of all those detained. Additionally, hundreds of people were arrested in the lead-up to the summit, including journalists and members of leftist groups.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized the importance of the right to protest, in the context of the restrictive measures applied by Turkish authorities.
