The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had an audience at the Vatican with Pope Leo XIV on Monday, where he requested support for Hungary's efforts to stop the war in Ukraine and promote peace in the region. Orbán emphasized the danger of becoming accustomed to wars and warned that, if not addressed, the conflict could affect Hungary.
After the meeting with the Pope, Orbán discussed with the Vatican's Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, about bilateral relations, the importance of family, and protecting vulnerable Christian communities. The Vatican's statement mentioned that the discussions also included European issues, focusing on the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Orbán announced that he would also inform Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni about Hungary's efforts to build an anti-war coalition.
