Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday to end the war in Ukraine, stating that the prolongation of the conflict represents a regression for all humanity. The appeal was made during a meeting in Kyrgyzstan, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

Modi began the discussion referring to Putin as "my friend" and emphasized the economic relations between India and Russia before directly addressing the issue of the war. He highlighted the need to move from an unfinished war to a peaceful solution, invoking principles promoted by Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa.

Although Russia has maintained the conditions for ending the conflict, India remains an important economic partner of Moscow, continuing to purchase Russian oil. Despite the call for peace, Modi reaffirmed the priorities of bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy and space industry.

Putin is expected to attend the BRICS summit in India, providing a new opportunity for discussions. This situation highlights India's delicate position, which advocates for peace while maintaining close relations with Russia.
