The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, reacted to the threats from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that he will not be intimidated and that Hungarians cannot be blackmailed. Orban urged Zelensky to stop the threats and to respect the Hungarian community.
The exchange of words occurred after Orban blocked the 90 billion euro financial aid offered to Ukraine by the European Union, citing Ukraine's delays in activating the Druzhba oil pipeline. Orban accused Ukraine of political blackmail, while Zelensky emphasized that the pipeline could soon become operational again, but he would prefer it not to function at all. Zelensky's statements were condemned by the European Commission, which deemed them unacceptable.
