Ukrainian Ambassador Ihor Prokopciuk called for the recognition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Romanian Orthodox Church, underlining the positive impact on bilateral relations

In a press conference, Ukrainian Ambassador to Bucharest Ihor Prokopciuk stressed the importance of full recognition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Romanian Orthodox Church, noting that this step would strengthen relations between the two nations. Prokopchuk also discussed the recent conflict in Chernivtsi, where violence broke out between representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the new religious structure. He stressed that Russia might try to turn this conflict into an interethnic one in order to create mistrust between Romania and Ukraine, promising that the authorities would seek peaceful solutions to local disputes.
