The President of the USA, Donald Trump, has landed in South Korea, optimistic about concluding a truce in the trade war with China, ahead of his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Arriving from Tokyo, Trump dismissed North Korea's recent missile test and focused on trade discussions with South Korea. On the agenda of the meeting with Lee Jae Myung is the unresolved trade agreement, in the context where both parties announced a preliminary agreement in July, but negotiations have stalled. Trump emphasized the importance of reducing tariffs on Chinese products in exchange for Beijing's commitment to limit exports of chemical precursors for fentanyl. Trump also expressed a desire to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but without a response from Pyongyang. Additionally, Trump held bilateral meetings with allied leaders, including Xi, and discussed Taiwan, but did not confirm whether he would address the topic in discussions with the Chinese leader.
