A vegetation fire broke out in Spain’s Costa del Sol region / Three people were injured, and dozens of residents were evacuated

A vegetation fire that broke out on Sunday near the town of Benahavís, close to Marbella, in Spain’s Andalusia region, injured three people and led to the precautionary evacuation of approximately 50 residents. The flames spread rapidly, fueled by wind gusts reaching 50 kilometers per hour.

One person suffered burns while attempting to put out the fire, a forest firefighter fractured their wrist in a fall, and a third person received medical attention after inhaling smoke.

Authorities urged the approximately 9,500 residents of Benahavís and nearby villas to remain indoors. The neighborhood evacuated as a precaution was not affected, and no homes were destroyed.

More than 200 firefighters and approximately 20 aircraft were deployed to contain the fire. Benahavís is an exclusive destination on the Costa del Sol, home to a large foreign community, particularly Britons. According to EFFIS, fires have affected more than 296,000 hectares in Spain since the beginning of the year.
