Eleven people were transported to hospital with injuries of varying severity on Saturday, after a bar collapsed in the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the La Rioja region of northern Spain. The incident occurred at around 05:25, and between 25 and 30 people were reportedly trapped inside the building.
Emergency response teams arrived at the scene and pulled out the people trapped beneath the rubble. Firefighters searched the entire area to ensure that there were no other victims or people trapped in the building.
According to the La Rioja government authorities, survivors reported that the bar’s floor collapsed first, followed by the ceiling. The 11 injured people received medical care and were transported to hospital. Police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to assess the condition of the structure.
