The President of the USA, Donald Trump, instructed the Pentagon to significantly reduce the joint military exercises with South Korea, scheduled to last 10 days, before they were set to begin. Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the costs of the exercises and Seoul's refusal to cooperate in actions against Iran.
The "Ulchi Freedom Shield" exercises, scheduled between August 17-27, involve approximately 18,000 South Korean troops and are intended to respond to North Korean threats. Trump criticized these exercises as provocative and costly, emphasizing his good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Throughout his term, Trump sought to reduce military exercises, considering them a provocation for North Korea. The relationship between Trump and Kim has fluctuated, from insults to diplomatic summits, without significant progress in nuclear disarmament.
