South Korea tempered on Thursday U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcements regarding future South Korean investments in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Alaska, AFP reports.
Seoul’s reaction introduces caution regarding the commitments presented by the White House leader. South Korean authorities have not confirmed, in the form announced by Donald Trump, the scale or firm nature of the investments concerned.
The project in Alaska aims to develop infrastructure for the production and export of liquefied natural gas. LNG is obtained by cooling natural gas until it liquefies, allowing it to be transported by sea to foreign markets.
The announcements regarding the project were made by Donald Trump, but South Korea subsequently conveyed a more reserved message. So far, no public details have been provided regarding the value of the investments, their timeline, or the South Korean companies involved.
