On the first day of the NATO summit, Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding the possibility of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, stating that both parties are willing to reach an agreement. The American president mentioned that he had a 'very good' discussion with Vladimir Putin and that he later spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump emphasized that, although the negotiations have taken a long time, there is hope that a solution will be reached soon. In the context of the scheduled meeting with Zelensky, the Ukrainian president stated that he would address Ukraine's urgent need to obtain air defense systems, considering the Russian attacks with ballistic missiles. This optimistic statement comes at a time when the war in Ukraine continues to drag on, and negotiations between the two parties remain stalled.
