United States President Donald Trump attacked the Norwegian Nobel Committee after failing to receive the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, an award granted to South African jurist Navi Pillay. In a speech, Trump claimed that the United States, represented by him, deserved the award and described the decision as “shameful” and “an indelible stain” on Norway.
The White House leader accused committee members of being “radical ideologues” hostile to democracy and civilization. He warned that he would not forget that Norway had not awarded him the prize and downplayed the laureate’s merits, saying that she was little known and close to the UN.
In the same speech, Trump said that he had contributed to resolving several conflicts and that he would quickly end the wars in Iran and Ukraine. Regarding Iran, he stated that the situation would be resolved “very quickly,” without explaining what conditions he might impose.
Trump also claimed that he had prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The claim is presented in the context of an unclassified report by the U.S. intelligence community, according to which Tehran had suspended its nuclear weapons development program in 2003.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay for her work in the field of human rights and accountability for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Pillay also headed the UN commission that accused Israel of genocide in Gaza, a conclusion rejected by Israel.
