Navi Pillay, a former South African judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC), received the Nobel Peace Prize for her contribution to promoting peace and international law. She criticized the sanctions imposed by the Trump administration on the Court, warning about the pressure exerted on international courts.

Washington accuses the Court of threatening U.S. sovereignty, particularly through investigations into Afghanistan and the warrants issued for some Israeli officials. UN Secretary-General António Guterres and several European states condemned the decision.
