The unions at the Louvre Museum in Paris, the most visited museum in the world, have announced a strike starting Monday, demanding urgent renovations and an increase in the number of employees. The strike comes after a series of incidents, including a jewelry heist worth 88 million euros and a water leak that damaged important documents. The unions, CGT, Sud, and CFDT, argue that the museum is in a critical situation due to staff cuts and years of underfunding. They also contest the 45% increase in ticket prices for visitors from outside the European Economic Area, considering it discrimination. Union representatives state that visitors will pay more for a deteriorated museum, where many rooms are closed due to lack of staff. Additionally, a report from the state auditor highlighted that security improvements have been made at an inadequate pace, and the Ministry of Culture has acknowledged the underestimation of security risks. The museum director had previously warned about the precarious conditions and the urgent need for renovation.
