The measures to restrict access to the internet have been implemented in the provinces of Balkh, Badakhshan, Takhar, Kandahar, Helmand, and Uruzgan, affecting most fiber optic operators. Taliban officials justified the decision by the need to combat vices and moral corruption, promising alternative connectivity options. Local entrepreneurs complain of financial losses due to interruptions, and expectations are that the restrictions will be extended nationwide. Since the Taliban's return to power, freedoms have been increasingly restricted, in accordance with their strict vision of Islamic law.
