The European Commission has announced restrictions on the use of PFAS, or "forever chemicals," in firefighting foams, as part of efforts to reduce the use of these substances in consumer goods. The restriction, which will come into effect by the end of the month, will have varying transition periods, and the sale of PFAS-containing extinguishers will be limited to six months. The Commissioner for the Environment, Jessika Roswall, emphasized the importance of this measure in combating PFAS pollution in Europe, considering soil and water contamination.
