Starting from August 12, all European Union member states are implementing new regulations for packaging and packaging waste.

These rules set strict limits on forever chemicals (PFAS) in food packaging and impose additional responsibilities on producers and importers. The regulation covers various types of packaging, including those made of plastic, paper, glass, and metal, used in various fields.

Producers must limit the weight of packaging and ensure its recyclability, and certain single-use packaging will be gradually restricted until 2030. Additionally, labels will be harmonized to inform consumers about the materials used. Companies are required to demonstrate compliance of packaging with the new requirements, and member states must organize separate waste collection. The European Commission emphasizes that these measures are essential for a circular economy and for protecting consumers.
