Taiwan has evacuated over 8,300 people from coastal and mountainous areas ahead of the arrival of tropical storm Fung-wong, which is expected to reach the southern part of the island. The storm had the strength of a super typhoon when it hit the Philippines, causing floods, landslides, and at least 27 deaths. Although it has weakened, Fung-wong continues to cause heavy rains and flooding in Taiwan, injuring at least 51 people. Authorities evacuated most people from Hualien County, which was affected by a previous typhoon. Schools and offices were closed in central and southern regions, while the capital Taipei operated normally. The storm was located about 140 km southwest of Taiwan, with maximum wind speeds of 65 km/h. Authorities have warned residents to avoid beaches due to high waves. In the Philippines, over 623,300 people remain in evacuation centers.
