The Bavi typhoon has affected the Sakishima archipelago in southern Japan, bringing torrential rains and wind gusts of up to 144 km/h, equivalent to a category 1 hurricane.

At 08:08 GMT, Bavi was located 200 km southeast of Wenling, in Zhejiang province, and is expected to make landfall in the area of Wenzhou city, where approximately 10 million people live. Over 1.7 million people have been evacuated in Zhejiang and 100,000 in Fujian due to flooding risks. Although Japan and Taiwan have not reported any fatalities, 17 people have died in the Philippines due to rains brought by a monsoon exacerbated by the typhoon.

In Taiwan, the government has evacuated 14,000 people and canceled 920 international flights, while cities have declared a day off. Bavi, which has been downgraded from super typhoon, continues to pose risks due to high humidity and forecasts of extreme precipitation. Oceans, affected by climate change, contribute to the intensification of tropical storms.
