The storm, the 25th typhoon in the region this year, advanced rapidly along the coast and has already caused significant damage. More than 50,000 households were left without electricity, and nearly 400 flights were canceled on Monday. In Kanagawa Prefecture, a woman in her 60s was the victim of a landslide. In Chiba, a man was pulled from the rubble of a house after a three-hour rescue operation and taken to hospital.

The typhoon is also affecting public events organized during the holiday period, including preparations for the Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture. Meteorologists continue to forecast heavy rains, but some experts believe that the most severe part of the storm may have passed.

Depending on how the weather develops, authorities could lower the alert level.
