Residents of the American territories in the western Pacific are preparing on Friday for a possible super-typhoon, Bavi, which could hit the Northern Mariana Islands soon.

Edwin Propst, a former legislator from Saipan, stated that the timing is extremely poor, considering that the region is recovering from the super-typhoon Sinlaku, which caused major destruction in April. Meteorologists estimate that Bavi will transform into a super-typhoon, with winds that could exceed 150 miles per hour. Although Bavi is located 760 miles east of Guam, residents are preparing by covering outdoor furniture and stocking up on gasoline.

The community hopes that Guam will bear the brunt of the storm, providing a respite for the Northern Mariana Islands. Reverend Francis Hezel mentioned that preparing for typhoons has become routine, and experts emphasize that the El Niño phenomenon intensifies hurricane activity. Although Sinlaku did not cause any deaths on land, residents continue to mourn the losses suffered.
