Sweden will place the first grain depots in the northern part of the country, in areas considered to be of 'strategic military importance'. These reserves will be managed through contracts between the state and companies, ensuring a constant rotation of stocks for the continuous availability of food. The bidding for this project was opened on October 15. The Minister of Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bohlin, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the total defense of the country, aiming to ensure access to essential food during times of crisis. The project is part of the total defense strategy, revised after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, involving the entire society in maintaining vital functions in the event of conflict. The Swedish Agricultural Agency stated that grain stocks can support 90-95% of the population for up to three months.
