The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the number of deaths resulting from the Russian airstrike on an ammunition depot near the city of Kiev has risen to 38.
The attack, which took place on the night from Friday to Saturday, was carried out with a drone and caused a massive explosion, fires, and secondary detonations in the locality of Mela. Rescue crews managed to extinguish most of the fires. Zelensky emphasized that the area is significantly contaminated, reporting, along with the dead, 20 injured and four missing.
Criticism regarding the placement of ammunition depots in residential areas has been renewed, considering a similar incident in July when a Russian attack led to eight deaths.
The Ukrainian prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to verify the legality of storing explosive materials in the respective area.
