Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tiviliov announced during a visit to Niger that Russia wants to mine uranium and develop a complete civilian nuclear energy system in the country. Niger, ruled by a pro-Russian military junta, recently nationalized the Somair mine, previously run by the French company Orano. Russia, through the Rosatom group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Niger's energy ministry to support these initiatives.
