Călin Georgescu’s tour reached Oradea: “I am told that I am campaigning for election. This is false”

Călin Georgescu delivered a speech on Sunday morning to supporters gathered at Piața 100 in Oradea, where he revisited themes concerning Romania’s economic situation, democracy and the role of the people in exercising power. The former presidential candidate denied that his public appearances were part of an electoral campaign.

Speaking from an improvised platform, Georgescu claimed that Romanian production is “suffocating,” that young people are leaving the country and that Romania has become a market for selling goods. He alleged that more than 15,000 Romanian companies disappear each month and that the country takes out loans worth one billion euros a week, without indicating sources or the period to which these figures refer.

Georgescu said that Romania is not poor, but “impoverished,” and argued that the country’s resources should benefit the lives of Romanians. The speech included appeals for participatory democracy, freedom of expression and “the power of the people,” as well as religious messages.

During the appearance, he held a bouquet of basil tied with tricolor thread and an icon, which he had received from supporters. At the end, the crowd chanted “Freedom” and “Călin Georgescu is president.” After approximately an hour, the former candidate left the square to applause from those present.
