A new recruitment campaign for reservists has been initiated in approximately twenty regions of Russia, according to the publication Kommersant. These reservists will be used for the protection of critical objectives, such as oil facilities and energy infrastructure. Recruitment began before the legal amendments, signed by President Vladimir Putin on November 4, came into effect. The law allows for the deployment of reservists in peacetime, applying to those who voluntarily sign a contract to serve in the reserves.
The Ministry of Defense clarified that reservists will not be sent to the front but will be responsible for protecting critical infrastructure in their regions. They will also receive salaries for the days they fulfill military duties. However, some industry sources have expressed skepticism regarding the effectiveness of these measures, emphasizing that real protection should come from the armed forces. The publication Meduza reported that the authorized reserve force has increased significantly, suggesting that this law could be a tool for additional recruitment of military personnel without an official mobilization.
