The Nihon Hidankyo group, laureate of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, sent a letter of protest to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, following Donald Trump's announcement regarding the resumption of nuclear weapons tests in response to challenges from China and Russia. The organization, which represents survivors of the atomic bombings of 1945, emphasized that this decision contradicts international efforts for a world without nuclear weapons and is unacceptable.

The mayor of Nagasaki, Shiro Suzuki, also criticized the decision, stating that it affects the efforts of those who have suffered due to atomic bombs. Additionally, organizations in Hiroshima have urged the U.S. not to conduct nuclear tests, emphasizing that a nuclear war would bring global destruction. The announcement raises questions about the nature and purpose of the tests that the Trump administration intends to authorize, considering that the last American nuclear test took place in 1992.
