TAROM has introduced its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft into its fleet. The “Mircea Lucescu” aircraft will fly on four European and domestic routes

On Saturday, TAROM added its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to its fleet, presenting it at Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni. The aircraft, named “Mircea Lucescu,” has 189 seats and will be used on routes to Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid and Cluj.

The aircraft was taken directly from Boeing’s manufacturer facility in Seattle, United States of America, and brought to Romania by TAROM crews and technical specialists. The company announced that this is the first stage of a fleet renewal program.

The new Boeing 737 MAX 8 is equipped with CFM LEAP-1B engines, has reduced fuel consumption and can reach a maximum speed of approximately 850 kilometers per hour. The aircraft has a range of up to 6,400 kilometers, is 50% quieter and produces 20% fewer carbon dioxide emissions than previous generations.

TAROM is set to renew its fleet with four Boeing 737 aircraft following the sale of four older planes. The next Boeing 737 MAX 8 is expected this month and will be named after former great Romanian athlete Ivan Patzaichin. The company explained that the aircraft’s name reflects values such as performance, discipline and perseverance associated with Mircea Lucescu’s career.
