Before the recent financial assessments, TAROM announced that it was suspending flights to Belgrade after 16 years of operating the route, and the withdrawal was also extended to the summer 2027 season in the sales system, without the reasons for the decision being disclosed.
Regarding strategy, the government program provided for competitive privatization and introduced a ban on new public aid for the company for the next 10 years, while maintaining essential air connections through competitively awarded public service contracts. At the same time, a procedure was also discussed for attracting a strategic investor in 2027, possibly with a minority or majority stake, conditional on the appointment of professional management and the demonstration of viability by the end of 2026, to protect approved state aid.
In parallel, the company also announced the integration of the first Boeing 737 MAX into its fleet, while the market also reacted to Wizz Air’s offer to take over TAROM’s domestic network, with the national airline describing the proposal as unrealistic.
