Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, reacted vehemently to the launch of Tomahawk cruise missiles conducted by the Japanese army in the Pacific Ocean. Although the details of the exercise have not been made public by Tokyo, Kim Yo Jong emphasized that it is evident that this weapons test has implications for North Korea and its neighbors.

She warned that Pyongyang will prepare additional military measures in response to what it considers a threatening rearmament of Japan, which is becoming a belligerent state. Kim Yo Jong criticized Japan for participating in joint military exercises with the U.S. and for accumulating long-range missiles, accusing them of hiding their intentions under the guise of a desire for peace.
