Omar Hayssam, conditionally released from prison on Friday, was admitted to a hospital, where he is under constant guard and supervision due to his poor state of health. The General Inspectorate for Immigration announced on Saturday that he has no right of residence in Romania and that the authorities had ordered that he be taken into public custody for 30 days.

The measure was taken with a view to his removal from Romanian territory under escort. During his hospitalization, Hayssam is receiving medical care, and once treatment is completed, he is to be transferred to an accommodation center of the General Inspectorate for Immigration. There, the procedures for his return will continue.

Omar Hayssam was conditionally released by the judges of the Ilfov Tribunal, through a final decision. He had been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison, after the sentences received in three cases were combined, including the case of the kidnapping of three Romanian journalists in Iraq.
