The leader of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, has called for the urgent establishment of centers for the return of migrants in Africa, following the crisis in Ceuta, where tens of thousands of migrants without the right to stay have entered the Spanish enclave.
Weber emphasized in his editorial in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that cooperation with neighboring countries, such as Morocco, has demonstrated effectiveness in managing migration. Criticizing the Spanish government's migration policy, he stated that Europe must act quickly to restore order at external borders. Weber reiterated the proposals of the European Commissioner for Migration, suggesting that countries outside the EU should be offered trade relations and opportunities for legal migration in exchange for accepting return centers.
He insisted that migrants who do not have the right to remain in Europe must be returned without exception, emphasizing that this process should not depend on the political will of member states.
