Manfred Weber, the leader of the EPP group in the European Parliament, sent a congratulatory message on Sunday evening to Ilie Bolojan, who was re-elected president of the PNL at an extraordinary congress.
Weber emphasized that Romanian citizens need clarity and leadership, stating that Europe needs strong center-right parties capable of reforming and defending European values.
"Europe needs strong center-right parties that have the courage to reform, to govern responsibly, and to defend European values. Today, Romania needs a strong PNL," wrote the EPP leader.
The congress was convened after the appointment of Adrian Veștea by President Nicușor Dan, without the party's agreement, which generated internal tensions.
During the meeting, a ultimatum was voted for five PNL members, including the designated prime minister, who were ordered to resign by Monday at 12 PM, otherwise they risk exclusion from the party.
