Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Monday an initiative aimed at transforming the way Spaniards use public transport, introducing a monthly subscription of 30 euros for people under 26 years old. This will allow unlimited travel on medium-distance and suburban trains, as well as on national buses, and could reduce employees' transport costs by up to 60%. The initiative, which will come into effect in the second half of January, comes in a context of corruption allegations and sexual harassment affecting his minority government. Despite opposition calls for early elections, Sánchez reaffirmed his commitment to continue until 2027, emphasizing that his government firmly addresses the allegations and is dedicated to improving the lives of citizens. In comparison, the initiative is similar to a program in Germany, which offers a monthly ticket for 49 euros.
