Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, said on Monday that the victory of the nationalist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt represents a “warning” for Europe and confirms a broader political shift at the international level. Sánchez made the remarks during an interparliamentary meeting of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE).

The Spanish leader argued that the far right is gaining ground in Europe and around the world, partly because traditional right-wing parties have adopted or accepted ideas promoted by radical groups. In his view, the phenomenon is not limited to Germany but is also spreading across the Atlantic.

Sánchez presented progressive governance in Spain as an alternative to far-right rhetoric, which he associated with “hatred.” The prime minister said left-wing politics is “more necessary than ever” and described Spain as an example of economic growth, job creation and the strengthening of the welfare state.

He added that his country is on the front line in managing the transformations brought about by digitalisation and the green transition.—assistant to=event_translation.output code大小规律 5b1?
