David Sánchez, the brother of the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has been sentenced to nine years of prohibition from holding public office in a case regarding his appointment to a position created in the provincial administration of Badajoz.
The court in Badajoz decided that the position held by David Sánchez in the cultural administration of the province was created without a real administrative necessity and for his benefit. The Prime Minister's brother was found guilty of complicity in administrative abuses and received a nine-year prohibition from holding public office, but was acquitted of the charge of influence peddling. In the same case, other officials involved in the hiring procedure were also convicted.
Pedro Sánchez has repeatedly claimed that the accusations against his brother are part of a politically motivated campaign.
